Professor Fabrice André
Director of Research at Gustave Roussy since February 2020, Professor Fabrice André steers the Institute's research strategy and coordinates its medical-scientific research programmes, in liaison with the Chief Executive Officer.
A medical oncologist specialising in breast cancer and Professor of Medicine at the University of Paris-Saclay, he heads the Inserm U981 research unit ‘Predictive biomarkers and new molecular strategies in cancer therapy’. His work involves a number of complementary areas of oncology research, ranging from basic to clinical research, as well as bioinformatics and biotechnologies. He is coordinator of three projects funded by Investissements d'avenir, including the CANTO cohort, the MyProbe RHU and the PRISM national centre for precision medicine, which has taken on a new dimension by becoming a University Hospital Institute (IHU) in spring 2023.
Professor Fabrice André is the author or co-author of 350 scientific publications in international journals and is included in the Web of Science Group's Highly cited researchers list. He is ranked among the 25 most influential figures in the field of precision medicine by the think tank BIS Research. He has been awarded the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Young Investigator and Career Development Award. He was editor-in-chief of the prestigious international journal Annals of Oncology for six years.
In 2021, Fabrice André received the Outstanding Investigator Award for Breast Cancer Research from the SABCS and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) for his significant contribution to translational and clinical breast cancer research. A member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) since 1 January 2023, he has been elected to the presidency of the learned society for two years, 2025 and 2026.
Since 7 December 2023, Prof. Fabrice André has been a member of the Presidential Science Council. The role of this committee is to advise the President on scientific issues and to help ensure that they are taken into account in the implementation of public policies.
In 2024, Professor Fabrice André joined the scientific committee of the Cancer Grand Challenge, one of the largest scientific initiatives on cancer led by CRUK and NIH.
